20th Anniversary

By Samuel Woldekidan, Deputy Managing Director

It seems like yesterday that our dream of owning our own school became a reality with School of Tomorrow. In September 1993, we started out in Hayahaulet as a preschool with only two teachers, and gradually made our way to offer an exciting program for children from Nursery to Kindergarten with almost 200 students and 18 teachers.

What makes School of Tomorrow special are the students. What a privilege to have made a difference in the lives of the literally thousands of young people who have come through our doors.

The elements that make Sot’s program special are the small class sizes, our devoted staff, prepared environment where children are free to respond to their natural drive to work and learn, the strength of our academics coupled with a strong emphasis in extracurricular classes, science fair competitions between branches, interclass and branch competitions in question & answers, computer, P.E., and library, and the attention to the individual needs of each student. We’re able to involve our students in so many special endeavors, including the special Christmas programs, and exciting educational trips, to name a few.

It succeeds because it draws its principles from the natural development of the child. The inherent flexibility allows the method to adapt to the needs of the individual, regardless of the level of ability, learning style, or social maturity. The children develop concentration, motivation, persistence, and discipline during the crucial years of development.

February 9, 2014 SoT celebrated its 20th anniversary; it was a major milestone in decades of excellent service to the society and nation in providing quality education that has brought forth accolades from all over the world. It was indeed a vision converted into a reality. The dream of a man of wisdom our founder and a beloved father Ato Woldekidan Forsido, as one of the pioneers who endeavored to promote the quality of education in the country.

As an ever expanding educational establishment, we have expanded and today it stands as one of the most popular schools with its well-trained teaching staff and overall conducive teaching learning atmosphere. In the 2013/14 academic year, the student population was 5278 with 473 teachers and 536 administrative and supporting staff.
The School is located in nine different parts of Addis Ababa City, the capital of Ethiopia. The 10th branch is under construction in Gulele Subcity, near Ras Desta Damtew Hospital Addis Ababa. It starts its service in the coming academic year. This has been a great achievement for the school.

Each year has its own challenges and opportunities to keep us all on our toes and completely engaged. We continually look for ways to improve and enhance our existing programs, and we look forward to what the future has in store for us. As Ben Sweetland said, “We cannot hold a torch to light another's path without brightening our own.”
